The Pecan Man is one of my favorite books, so I was really excited to read The Truth About Grace. The characters just came to life and I’m so glad to know what happened to them. This story deals with the aftermath of so many truths being revealed at the Pecan Man’s funeral. In addition, the family also deals with Grace’s drug addiction. The emotions and harsh realities of a family in turmoil, but trying to help each other, were realistic and revealing. Through all the hurt, anguish, and broken trust are threads of hope and love. I definitely recommend this book, but be sure to read The Pecan Man first.
I had no idea that a sequel was even in the making. I read The Pecan Man years ago when it first came out and loved every word I read. I was sad that it was so short and immediately went to the authors page to see if she had any other books I could read. I was disappointed to see that she only had the one book, so when I received an email saying a sequel had just been released I couldn’t click on “buy now with one click†fast enough! The story was excellent, I liked every single character and the ending was heart warming. I’m following this author hoping she’ll continue to write. Her books grab you from the start and suck you in to where you can’t put the book down once you’ve started. Please keep your Southern stories coming!
Loved "Pecan Man" and this is a pleasant sequel, which takes the characters further into the characters' lives. Nothing spectacular happens, it's just a tidy tie-up-the-questions read. Characters are well-developed and the premise of an innocent man sent to prison is explored further with Ora's confession, and what might happen to her admission of collusion. Recommend it, but don't look for a lot of action or big surprises.
I have eagerly awaited another book by Cassie Dandridge Selleck after having read "Pecan Man". Imagine my pleasure at finding this sequel now available! It did not disappoint. The story of Grace and how, not only her trauma, but especially the denial of her family that it had ever occurred, lead her down a road of pain and addiction and self-loathing. The characters were very real, as were their struggles. An excellent book for anyone who suffers from addiction or has a loved one who does.
This is a must read book once you have read The Pecan Man. Both books were well written. In this book we find out what happens to Grace and all the other characters. Rape is awful but rape of a child is incomprehensible. The decisions about how to deal with the rape effected the whole family. A mother, a friend, a grandfather and a brother deal with it differently. Tragedy occurs as a result, almost like the domino effect. Drug addiction by Grace is how she attempts to forget.
In this long awaited sequel to The Pecan Man, we finally learn the toll those tragic events took on Grace and her entire family. Cassie Selleck has written with compassion and knowledge of three very difficult subjects - rape, race, and addiction. Despite that, it is full of humor, family love, and new beginnings. You don't want to miss this one!
I learned a great deal from the story. I read the Pecan Man and when I saw the sequel, I decided to read it and enjoyed it thoroughly. I also learned a great deal about drug abuse and have a different attitude about what they go through. I am working with a teenager who wants to write her memoir. She is not on drugs, but has other problems. I also want her to read about Gracie.When is the next book?
I read The Pecan Man and loved it. But in the back of my mind, I kept thinking, "That poor Grace is going to end up a basket case." I always wondered what would become of her. Well, Cassie answered the question in this wonderful sequel! An abuse survivor myself, it was so easy for me to understand why Grace made the choices that she did. Having said that, I was glad the book ended on a happy note. Substance abuse can happen to any family in any town in America. Cassie handles this horrible epidemic with truth and dignity.
