I cannot say enough about this book. I've never done well with my own attempts at mixed media work. But, with the amazing guidance Mimi gives in this highly-detailed and high-quality book, mixed media work is within my grasp. I am so thrilled with the painting I'm learning to do! There is an abundance of colorful pictures that clearly explain each step in the creation of a work of art. Mimi's style is bright and cheerful and whimsical and I love it! I'm hoping book two is in the future! If I could pick a mentor in this field, it would be Mimi! This book is an amazing bargain - worth every penny and more! This is happiness wrapped up in an instruction book! I've added a few of my creations based on her book and my work was nothing like this before finding Mimi!

This is a great book both for beginners and for anyone who wants to learn how to make a multi-layered background. She also has a few examples, complete with step by step instructions, of art journal pages with focal points, including the one on the cover. What makes this book unusual is that it really does have step by step instructions for all of the pages shown in the book.When you are just starting out, either in mixed media, or in learning a new technique, it helps to have step by step instructions. There is only one bad review of this book at the present time, and the author of that review is correct that if you are copying someone else's work, you aren't being creative. But what you are doing is learning. So if you want to learn, this is a good book for doing that.I, by the way, have owned the book she suggests instead, and it is also a good book in its own way. I drew my first face from that book.

I have never written a review online, but this book is THAT GOOD. As much as I liked to draw with color pencils, I had never been able to paint (and I tried). Paint scared me; it was messy and unpredictable. And then I came across No Shenanigans, the book that changed my life! The step by step instructions are great; very easy to follow. With each painting I learned something new, techniques that I now apply to my own paintings. Thanks to this book, I went from being afraid of painting to looking for any opportunity paint. Buy the book; it's worth it! Like me, you might discover a gift you never knew you had :)

Fun book, but there are a LOT of steps for each project--some more than others--requiring me to either leave all my painting and supplies on the kitchen table for days, or haul them back and forth from a closet each time. Do wish there was a project or two that had less steps. Ms. Bondi does do a great and inspiring job of explaining almost all the steps, though. Smaller pictures describe almost every single step which is good for amateurs like me! Love her enthusiasm.

This is a nice book for beginners who would like to make bright flowered designs or collage for art journals or on a canvas. You create with your fingers, the edge of a credit card, and simple supplies with step-by-step instructions. Nothing fancy or expensive to buy in this book.

I've made all of them. I gave away two to my sister who loves them. You only need to follow instructions. While, after this exercise, I won't he deliberately copying Ms Bondi's style, I've learned a nice set of skills for my future works.

I am totally new to art, have never lifted a paint brush since elementary school. Mimi teaches you how to relax and enjoy the process. She lets you see this as having fun and forgetting about perfection. This is totally a No Shenanigans type of art process. I love Mimi's style and her attitude. Highly recommend.

I love Mimi Bondi's tutorials so buying her mix media how to book was a no brainier. I'm so glad I did. This is probably the best book I've read for learning how to create the rich layers that this art form is known for. Her cheerful, chatty prose is exactly like her videos. And there are so many step by step photos to make the whole process more accessible. If you can only buy one mix media instruction book, this is the one you want.
