About the Author

Carolyn B. Heller traveled more than 5,000 miles (8,200 kilometers) across the highways and back roads of western Canada while researching this book. She's been road-tripping since she was a child, and she has continued that road trip tradition with her own daughters, notably in 2003, when she and her then-10-year-old twins traveled across the United States on an epic six-week road trip. Carolyn is an avid traveler and passionate food lover who has eaten on the streets, in fine restaurants, and everywhere in between in more than 40 countries. She has contributed to more than 50 other travel and restaurant guides. She's a Vancouver-based correspondent for the Forbes Travel Guide and Viator Travel. Her articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Perceptive Travel, FamilyFun, Real Weddings, and many other publications. It's a guide book. It fulfills its function.

Good guide. Next revision should include more about cycling in Vancouver, BC.

Much better travel guides out there.

Moon travel guides in general are well formatted and informative. The main trip was Vancouver, but we had a stopover / few hours in Victoria (that's where our ferry from Seattle docked) and this guide was super helpful in helping us navigate. We ended up catching a tour bus to the Butchart Gardens (so pretty!) and taking a ferry from there that took us to Downtown Vancouver. I totally felt like a local being able to just wander. The maps and zoning was super helpful. And reading about the descriptions of places, two thumbs up. They covered the typical touristy places, but also they had something for everyone looking for something different.

Good guidebook. Used it for a week long trip in Vancouver. It took a minute to get used to the format since I don’t use a lot of guidebooks, but once I did I appreciated how it was organized by neighborhood and also activities even though it meant some overlap in content. Since we didn’t have much of a preplanned schedule I found it helpful each night to look through the neighborhoods we were going to go to the next day to get ideas of places to stop. Then I’d also look through the activity or restaurant sections to look for extra stuff. I thought the craft brewery scene on the east side of Vancouver was great to highlight, heads up though there are a ton more over there now. We were there in December and some of the favorite things I did we’re the Christmas light displays! I would love to see a page to highlight all the awesome winter wonderland experiences there are to experience if you are there around that time of year. It is small enough to carry in a larger purse if you want it with you on the go, but I found myself just using it more for tips the day before then using my phone to find stuff while we were out. Overall I found some good tips in the book, and I recommend it for a trip to Vancouver.

This book is well-organized and super helpful. Includes a pull out map. Covers whistler and vancouver island too. Good neighborhood by neighborhood recommendations.
