The material is not too challenging for someone who has completed a basic college level course in Brazilian Portuguese. There is a lot of good added vocabulary and the subject of young girl from Georgia going to college in California is an interesting one to the general reader. . The English translations at the end of each paragraph are very helpful with the particularly difficult grammatical structures. The only thing that I would recommend would be review questions at the end of the each chapter so that the student would know if they properly understood the material. One suggestion: produce and sell an audio version. Brazilian Portuguese is not fully phonetic like Spanish. It would be a great add-on item. The second part which is merely the text without the translation is a great way to master the most difficult material. In summary, it is a very fine reader for beginning students of Brazilian Portuguese. I hope that the authors will put together a follow on text for intermediate and advanced students.
